Michelle Toland, LCSW
I started my career as a Spanish teacher in the public education system, teaching grades K-12 in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Early in my career, I realized that the best part of my job was the connections that I created with students and staff as well as the intrinsically rewarding inspiration from watching students overcome challenges and obstacles to create a promising future for themselves.
After teaching for a few more years, I enrolled in a Master’s program and graduated from Widener University in 2012 with a Master of Social Work. I started working towards my clinical experience in an outpatient mental health setting and an adolescent residential facility before moving to Loudoun County in 2014 for a position in the school system. I worked as a Bilingual School Social Worker at various elementary and secondary schools in Leesburg and Sterling providing sociocultural assessments, mental health screenings, individual and group counseling services, and case management to students and families in English and Spanish.
I joined MLB Therapy, PLLC full time in 2023 where I continue to be inspired by the resilience and meaningful progress of my clients in reaching their goals towards the life they aspire. My therapeutic approach is warm, strengths based, client centered, and culturally competent. I offer a safe, accepting space for clients to learn about themselves with a deeper understanding, heal from inner wounds and trauma, and make identified changes at a self-determined pace. I hold in high regard the transformative power of good therapy and work together with clients to build a strong and supportive therapeutic alliance. I use trauma informed CBT and draw from other modalities depending on the therapeutic needs of each unique client.
