Michelle Bogdan, LCSW

Founder, MLB Therapy

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience helping adults, teens, and families build insight, navigate challenges, and create lasting change.

My path began working in an alternative school for middle and high schoolers before attending SUNY Buffalo, where I earned my Master’s in Social Work in 2003 with a clinical focus on Alcohol and Other Drugs. I started my clinical career in Niagara Falls, NY providing home-based counseling for youth in the Juvenile Justice System, then moved to Northern Virginia in 2003,  where I’ve lived and practiced ever since.

Over the years, I’ve worked in Child Protective Services, community mental health, and private practice, deepening my understanding of systems, family dynamics, and resilience. In 2012, I opened MLB Therapy, and I feel honored every time a client entrusts me to walk beside them on their journey.

I specialize in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, parenting challenges, trauma, relationship struggles, and life transitions. Many of my clients are navigating recent or past traumas that continue to impact their lives or their relationships with their children, co-parents, or others.

I am certified in EMDR therapy and offer both traditional EMDR sessions and EMDR Intensives, including EMDR Parenting Intensives. My advanced EMDR training helps clients move beyond trauma so they can live more consistently with their true values – whether that means parenting differently, building healthier relationships, or reclaiming confidence at work and in life.

With the right support and strategies to help you heal, the possibilities for your life aren’t just something to imagine – they’re something you can create.

In sessions, I bring my authentic self: I use humor, validation, and genuine connection to help you feel at ease, stretch beyond your comfort zone, and foster the changes you’re seeking. Clients who thrive in therapy with me are ready to learn, build insight, and grow into the version of themselves they envision.

Outside of my practice, I enjoy camping, hiking, gardening, cooking, and spending time with my family,  and of course, playing with our dogs. Like many of my clients, I’m continually working to create balance between the different parts of my life.

I am licensed to provide therapy in Virginia, West Virginia, and New York.

Therapist

After a career in technology, I am living my passion for helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges and transitions. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from George Mason University in 2010 and am currently working toward my LCSW under the supervision of MLB Therapy.

I specialize in supporting teens and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions (such as divorce, career shifts, or major moves), family challenges, and relationship struggles. My approach blends cognitive-based models like CBT and motivational interviewing with experiential methods such as mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), tailoring each session to meet the unique needs of my clients.

My goal is to help clients build coping skills, manage symptoms, and live lives guided by their values – not by anxiety, stress, or self-doubt. I believe therapy should be a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences, develop resilience, and move toward greater self-confidence and wellbeing.

I currently offer evening and Saturday morning appointments to provide flexibility for busy schedules.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, camping, traveling with my family, and bringing a spirit of curiosity and lifelong learning to everything I do. I’m proud to offer inclusive, culturally competent care to every client I serve!
